I bought a fluval 207 the impeller is making a crackling noise after a while so I bought a rebuild kit and yet after a few hours it eventually makes a loud non stop crackling noise and sometimes it's worse at full throttle what could this possibly be it's annoying

Is it a new or secondhand filter?
If it's new, take it back and get it swapped for a good one.

I can't offer much more help at this stage but hopefully someone who has that model of filter will be able to help out in a few hours when they come online.

On my 407 you get a crackling sound if there is any air in the system. Any chance your system is pulling some air in on the return line. You might want to try and clean and reseat the impeller and associated components in the motor head, these parts seem picky in terms of how they are placed together. The impeller or impeller housing might be worn giving too much play on the impeller.

It will work good for 7h then start the noise and I tried to get it to stop making the noise trying to move it around but never did anything

I verify in this order.

Impeller shaft and bushing, also verify the impeller cover seal, make sure nothing wobbles. These ceramic shaft are fragile and easy to break. If the filter has an impeller well also verify if it doesn't move or is damaged.

Clean and lubricate all seals and the shaft with a silicone base lubricant. Fluval has one formulated for aquarium filters. Inspect all connections and hoses for any leaks. Also lubricate all rubber hose connectors both sides and the primer assembly seal.

If it persist you may have the aqua-stop valve and / or the primer assembly and / or the motor head leaking air in. Most of the time very old or stored for a long period used filter will have a failing aqua-stop valve.

I have the 207 and a 107, never had a problem, every 2 months when cleaning the filter I clean the impeller and lubricate the motor head o ring, at the same time, I also lubed the the aqua stop valve rings if I was you as you bought it second hand, I would purchase a new impeller, also when it comes to lubricant you don't need to buy the fluval I use Aqua one aquarium lubricant £4.50 on ebay with free postage, it's good stuff. Also I don't know how old your filter is, but might be a good idea to replace the o rings, one large on the motor head and two small on the aqua stop.

I have 3 207. The crackling noise comes from the impeller. If this is a new unit take it back. The impeller is hitting th side or the bottom of the well. Also. The new shaft on an old unit will not fit. Use old impeller shaft. Make sure the fins on the impeller are all there. There also could be air in the system. Make sure the well the impeller is in is clean.

I also get this sound in my 407 when there is air in the system.

I have the 207 (my 2nd one, 1st one failed back in January and had to be replaced by Fluval).

The 2nd one has almost the same issue, the noise is not as bad - your sounds more... dry?

Mind runs fine for a few hours, then slowly the noise comes until the flow rate is almost nothing, and the noise is at its worst. If I turned it off for an hour or so, and on again - it's fine and the process repeats itself.

I'm at a stage where I have to do this every day, twice a day. Driving me nuts!

Impeller has nothing broken, has been cleaned, lubed etc - no air leaks found.

Only real observation is when I turned it off, it sounds like a small amount of air either comes out, or into the output outlet.
