Hi all,

Thinking of upgrading my Roma 200l from a u4 internal filter to either a fluval 206 or 306 external for better filter capacity. I'm inclined towards the 306 as I'd rather overfilter and have more fish than underfilter but is the 306 overkill? The Roma 240 comes with a 306 so I figured it would be fine. All my tank residents like a current too so no issue with sedate fish disliking the flow.

Water quality isn't a problem for me with the u4 but nitrates get a little high so I feel the external would help me control these as I can clean out the sponges etc to remove nitrate-originating detritus more often and easily without losing half of it back into the water when I move the sponges.

Would a bigger filter allow more fish per gallon etc?

Current residents:
14x panda cory
5x black ruby barb
9x dwarf neon rainbow
9x lemon tetra

Was hoping to get the non-cory shoals to around 10-12 each and/or add a pair of German rams?

Thoughts?

Cheers,

306 is def not overkill.I have a 206 and a 406 in my 300 litre.this plus to wavemakers to push water at diff levels towards intake strainers.

Interesting. Why so much filtration may I ask? Would it be worth keeping my u4 running simultaneously? I was hoping to take it out to reduce clutter too but will keep if best. Are additional powerheads etc useful too for maintaiing water quality?

I have a 306 on my 200 litre tank and it's far from overkill, 406 if you plan to overstock it a lot. But I'd say 306 is bang on the money where you want it.

As per stocking suggestions, it's pretty decent but might get abit busy in the middle of the tank with 3 groups of mid swimming fish in there. Could remove one group and repace it with a pair of something that stands out. German rams are good but I'd recommend them if you have soft water as there normally quite fussy.

I originally had a u3 and aqueon 750 internals along with my 406.this was for diff levels of flow.at the time it was to combat a cyno issue.the filtration was bang on although it looked to cluttered which is why I have the set up now.
Two filters are always better in my opinion
