Hi,
I'm building a Fluidised Bed Filter and was wondering, after initial testing, how much does the sand need to be "fluidised"? I'm running a Juwel 400lph powerhead (although, it's about 8 years and it's output is probably more like 50lph! ), and it just doesn't seem to be disloging the sand enough. Is there a way of spreading out the flow of water from the powerhead more.

Thanks,
Chris

yes, yes there is.

Now maybe when someone who knows what your talking about comes along, they may be able to tell you. :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p

My god your a dumb ass! :D

Basically, the fluidised bed filter consists of a filter box, with a bed of sand at the bottom. A water current is passed through the box which disturbs the sand and "fluidises" it. This sand has a phenominal surface area, which provides massive amount of surface area for bacteria to grow on.

Thanks,
Chris

I *think* there was another topic about FBFs that covered pretty much everything, have you googled it, theres a loy of aquarium DIY sites that cover them.

Yep, theres loads of sites about them but none of them mention the actual movement of sand. I've search these forums though.

Thanks,
Chris
