Whats the best way to get rid of this stuff? i only have it on one rock right now, but I dont want it to spread to other rocks. Remove manually with a toothbrush in a bucket of old tankwater? Chemicals? Cleanup crew?

Any advice appreciated.

Its probably cyano. Is this what it looks like?

You can blow it off with a pipet or you can buy some snails and they should tear right through it

if I remove it in the tank though, will that not cause it to spread? I mean, if it comes off the rock and ends up on the substrate, will it not take root there?

My snail has so far shown no interest whatsoever, nor have my hermit crabs.

Astrea snails are supposed to eat it. But I find those to be kind of useless, as eventually there metabolisms slow down when they are not walking on food. They get slower and slower, and only eat minute portions.

Before I had my Lawnmower Blenny, I had a little bit of cyano on the rocks, but he anihhilated it. Also, you might find that sand-sifter animals take care of it to, by burrying it. Once the bacteria is in darkness, it dies quickly (within 2-3 days). My Red Hermit also destroyed the algae, but of course they are unsuitable for an average reef tank.
