Flower Horn Basic

Well i am getting a 120 US gallon tank in mid jan. I might as well have some gorgeous fish in there, and after seeing this thread i know exactly what fish to get :hey:
So i have a couple questions to ask ...

Can i get a FH in my tank?
Can i get more than 1?
What type of a tank do they like (example: heavly planted) ?
What temperature do they require and ph and ect.
What are there food requirements?

I am not really concerned about breeding until i can take good care of them. Any advise would be appreciated.

They just had a flowerhorn at an lfs I went to yesterday! I wanted it so bad, but not big enough tank and my dad said no to the $70 fish

If you're not into show type or make the FH get the full potential u can use a minimum of 20 US Gals.

120 US gals u can subdivide it into 3 parts and you can get 3 FHs (be sure you will use a divider that they can't see eachother) If you want your FH too look really nice, huge kok and best color 120 US gals is good for 1 fish and I'm sure it will reach it's full potential.

Tank type ? the only thing you want to add is a substrate, no plants (FH will detroy it) don't put anything like castle, big corals, etc. (your FH might get hurt)

Temp is 84-89

Food ? you want to get my secret ? lol food is easy and before getting a FH if you can show me the pics first so I can advise you if the FH has a potential or non.

Food - I feed live feeds in the morning and pellet in the afternoon. Feed them 2-3 times a day. ( Get a pellet atleast 50% protein)

If you have any other questions just let me know.

K thx. I'm not sure if ill go for it. 1 fish in a 120 gallon i dont know. Ill rather get more fish. But i can always get 1 in my 30 gal ... u stated that they are fine in a 20 gallon. When i get my tank, and hopefully find a flowerhorn ill let u know. Thx :)

yeah ! but if u can get a 55 gal tank for him it's a lot better. Let me know if you'll get a ZZ or a Kamfa strain just show me the pic, coz different strains has different ways of taking care of them ;)

I know nothing about Flowerhorns (as I've said before) - but, cracker did say it would need a larger tank to reach it's potential (55 gallons is deffinately better than 20) and, as with any large fish, I would think it's best to put the Flowerhorn in a tank where it can come pretty close to reaching that potential. I've heard it quoted several times on this forum that 'our aim should be to keep fish in an environment where they can thrive - not merely survive'. :) I'm sure you do aim to do that - but, for emphasis, I thought I'd kind of clarify that point :p

That's correct ! ... I can say that I'm an experienced FH breeder and been producing high quality FH and raise them properly.

I'm here to help people who are interested with FHs :D

They are some of the most fantastic looking fish I have seen!!

Some were sold to an individual hobbyist and some were given as a gift to my close friends.
I am quite willing to be your "close friend" (to a point!! :sly:) and you can send me some!! :D ;)

That Thai Kamalau! Amazing! The pattern, the shape, the color... How much would that one cost exactly? I've seen some of the prices FHs are sold at - usualy ridiculous IMO - but I imagine that one's worth it lol

If you will go to Thailand you might get it for $100 - $150, In the Philippines it's $300 up and in the US it's probabaly minimum of $500 -
