Floating plants for beginner

How long can I leave plants growing in the tank with no fish in there. I took them all out I'm not sure how to use CO2. Thanks

If you fertilize the water with a complete fertilizer including nitrogen and the plants start growing you can leave them in the tank indefinitely. Note floating plants can extract CO2 directly from the air. A CO2 system mainly benifits plant that are fully submerged.
