Hi all :)

Its been quite a long time since I’ve posted here, but one of my babies is acting quite strange and I thought I would stop on by to see if any of you fine betta lovers had any thoughts or ideas on it.

This betta is about a year and a half old, I personally have had him for a year. He has been “floatingâ€￾ at the top of his tank for about 2 months now.

I thought at first he was constipated, and that was affecting his swim bladder, but I’ve given him peas for a few days straight, and even not fed him for 2 days just to try and see if it would help.

Anyways, the water quality is totally tip top, he actually seems very happy, he eats well, and wiggles around the top of the tank all happy, still but can’t seem to sink at all. But I guess for a betta its better to be stuck at the top of the tank than the bottom. Since that way he can still breath. He's got a 5 gallon all to himself, but seems silly he only can use the top of it.

But I still have to wonder, whats up with him? Is it his swim bladder? Is it just from being old he can no longer sink down? Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks in advance! :)

I honestly have no idea. I'm really sorry. However, my Mr. Bubbles was like that for a while, but I just changed his water and now he seems to be fine. It was sad seeing him, because he was trying to swim down so hard, he just wasn't going anywhere. :(

I was told to put my fish in less then a gallon of water about 3 or 4 inches deep no gravel (something long so there is still the swimming room) put aquarium salt in and dont feed for a couple days then feed mosiquitoe larvea (frozen)
see if this helps helped my boy

Yah, I would put him in a bare-bottom tank so you can keep track if he's pooping or not. If he is, there's probably something wrong with his swimbladder, although it's kind of odd for that to randomly show up after 1 1/2 years. If he's not pooping, he's constipated... feeding him different foods might help (such as no freeze-dried if you feed that at all).
