Flicking After Water Changes

API stress coat contains aloe vera to help replace slime coats etc etc, it could be that this bit of help actually irritates the already healthy fish so they flick to rid themselves of the aloe vera coat?

Just to clarify the information in my post, the product I used was the regular Tap Water Conditioner, not the Stress Coat. The picture shows both the old and new bottles.

The fish that were effected were all corydoras.

yeah it was definately the tap water cond we used this time, the new stuff, and I think that contains aloe vera too although I'm not 100% sure.

Can't say for definate if it's the tap water cond or stress coat we've used when we've noticed it before.

I think we are talking about different salt. I use Great Value salt that I get from Wal Mart. The salt does not contain Iodide and from what I have been told by many people is that most fish can use this type of salt. I had Corys and I used this same type of salt and they lived for 4 years. I have only had one Pleco and I had to get rid of him because he was eating fish. You need to keep an eye on him. Like my Angel fish would go to the bottom to sleep and he would leach onto them. The reason I was telling you how to treat ick is because I overlooked the number of posts you have. But can I ask how often do you do water changes? Do they do this with a complete strip down or is it just a normal %25-30% change. If they are doing that with a normal cleanup then it could be the temp of the water you are using. I have a hose pipe that runs from my shower and I try to keep it the same temp as the water in the tank. I cant really think of anything else that it may be. I had a fish that got dropsy and he hit on the ornaments. Does your fish's eys look alittle bigger than normal. Oh well, I hope your fish get well and sorry that I acted like you where a noob on my last post. I didnt relize you have been posting for a while.

it's OK, I've been keeping fish for over 5 yrs now, have 6 tanks including a marine one and have grown up around fish since I was a kid. I've battled ich on a number of occasions and know how to treat it. I'm not an expert and I don't know everything but I'm just about past the basic's now! ;) Post count isn't everything though, someone who writes for PFK and is considered an expert could sign up today and they'd have a minute post count, would you then not trust they're advice??

If your gonna advise to use that stuff then you really need to specify, fair enough you didn't mean regular salt, but you didn't say that, if I was new to fishkeeping and had followed your advise you could have cost me a lot of money in livestock. Don't mean to sound harsh, but think through your advise a little better before you post it. :)

water changes are weekly, about 30%, just a regular vac and change the water. Someone else explains the science much better than I do but it's been worked out from a 20% change using tap water at a temp fo something like 5oC will only make your tank temp drop by 1oC. Not a whole lot so it really shouldn't make a difference.

As I've said before the fish aren't ill. From a few hrs after the water change they exhibit no signs of illness whatsoever, the tank's well maintained with no issues. It's just during the process of changes and for a short while after they flick.
