anyone keep these? the mrs would like one as a house rabbit for christmas, as a concession for all the tanks in the house :*) any info or advice would be appreciated, i'd like to know what im letting myself in for...
one thing in particular, is would it be ok to travel about 125 miles in a car when we go away for the weekend? Go to Cardiff for weekends about once a month, is it going to be a nightmare trying to transport a 10kg rabbit in the car :/ i'm guessing a normal carry box even for a cat would be out of the question.

Hi Chris,

If you're looking for somewhere to get a rabbit from, take a look at Blueberry Warren. It's just outside Chudleigh, near Finlake ;)

They've got loads of rabbits there, not sure if they've got an Flemish Giants though !!!

We went when we were home last, as Emma wants a couple for Xmas !!! ;)

Good luck !

Andy

I had one for 7 years- she was a great rabbit! Her name was Charley.
Actually, i was supposed to get a dwarf but the 2 mothers, a dwarf and a flemmish broke out of the hutch and gave birth in the garden the same day, they were all so tiny when i got mine you couldn't tell the difference. SO...my dwarf shortly grew to 27lbs.
She was great though - wonderful personality!
They can definately travel just a shallow box with a towel should do. Also you can litter train them, but you probably knew that.

Cheers Andy I drive past that place on my way home from work every day so will drop in and have a chat i think

fishykisses, was yours a house rabbit or did it live outside? this ones gonna be a house rabbit but i'm not quite sure yet what i will need to do about accomodation inside the house for it. I'm gonna rabbit proof my spare room and let it have free run of that while we are out but not sure what i need to do about a hutch or cage

Ooh, I'd love a Flemish Giant  We've got a New Zealand white, she's about 6kg... Grumpy git though, we got her from the RSPCA shelter. They normally rehome their rabbits in pairs, and there was another new zeland white, but she couldn't be housed with any becasue she attacked them  She's OK once she realises you're going to either feed her or stroke her though, but hates being picked up. For a rabbit that big, I wouldn't bother with a hutch. Ours has a 5ft long one, the biggest you can really get is 6ft, but with all that weight -_- I'd just let it sleep in the room, or get a dog kennel :fun:

OMG - how cool are these!!!

Just going out to walk the rabbit!

I really dont want to see the state of the garden if it decided to dig!

She started out an indoor rabbit but within the first 48 hours chewed 5 of our brand new $500 venition (sp?)
blinds, so the parentals quickly sent her out. She lived in a big hutch with a ramp going down and a big enclosed dome so she could eat grass and bask in the sun safely without anything getting to her. But really she spent very little time in there. In the morning we would let her out and she would roam around the yard and come up on the balcony and chill out and then at dusk we'd put her back in.
If i knew then what i know now, the first 48 hours she would have spent in the bathroom learning to use a litter box.
People i know have indoor rabbits but they live in the kitchen - lino floor, they use a litter box and there are no cords for them to eat.
That's the biggest danger with rabbits in the house.

cheers andy thats brilliant! have emailed the advertiser. are you thinking of getting one as well now?

How'd you get on with the Rabbit Chris ?!?

I was just browsing when I spotted that ad !!! ;)

We bought two Black Rex's last weekend, they're only 13weeks old, and soo cute..... (note: that's the gf's opinion not mine!!!! ;) )

Andy

they only have white bucks in this litter, ideally wanted a more "butch" looking rabbit if im gonna take it out on a lead :p so gonna hold out for a grey or black buck i think. plus ive got to finish decorating and rabbit proofing the spare room before i can bring one home so im hanging on for a few weeks i think

Russ..... I'm planning on attempting to get on in the Jan sales ;)

Chris, keep us posted mate!
