Flaring

I showed Bill a mirror and he did flare, but then he started freaking out. Should I continue showing him a mirror? Maybe he just has to get use to it?

They do get quite freaked out...perhaps he didnt realise he was such a handsome dude! I show mine one when they look bored they calm down afterwards...

Yep, he freaks out, that's part of the flaring.

Does this freaking out include dancing around and around his tank? if so he is just proving to "the other betta" that he is bigger and better than him

I love it when they do a sort of tribal dance and then come back for another flare..mine had live bloodworms today and they were hunting for ages afterwards in case they had missed one.
