Flaring

umm so is flaring a good thing, i only have one male but when he sees his reflection, he flares up like crazy, I know lots of u joke about it but is it bad or does it not matter...im embarrased to ask this but i just want to be sure it isnt bad for him to see his reflection.

as far as im aware, some flaring is good, but they can over do it.

Is he just doing it when you place a mirror there or is there something in his tank that is making him see his reflection? if its the latter then hopefully he should settle down after a few days

My boys are all in sight of eachother and flare regularly, all are non the worse for it

bit off topic but I just gave all my boys mushed up peas..and my oldest one scared me he jumped out of the water I actually felt his little mouth on my finger! I think they have had too much live food this week, bit like giving kids e numbers

He only does it when i put a mirror there for him,
and for the excersise thing, how long should he do it???

Don't be ashamed to ask questions. That's what this forum's for.

I don't know about the other guys but after feeding I let my bettas flare at each other for around ten minutes. It's actually good for them. But only in small doses.

Yea, its good because its excersize for them and it gets their blood pumping so it makes thier colors more vibrant, You can prop the mirror up in front of his tank and let him do it for about 10 minutes and then let him relax for the rest of the day. I do that almost every day.

I realized like 10 mins b4 coming on here that it isnt only the mirror, when i turn his tank light, he sees his reflection in the tank and flares, so that is good for him right??? B)

He should get used to his own reflection hopefully in a couple of days. I had one that would constantly flare at his reflection as I had no substrate he was fine, they are characters

Great thanks to all that responded...he's such a fighter, I bought him a hideaway area with a little eel on top and he tried to fight the fake eel...

Umm...a little update, yesterday night i put his light on and he flared for 2 hours, i got worried so i just shut it off are you sure it is good....I mean 2 hours

Like someone said before they can over do it and that my friend is over doing it. It sounds like a problem so if its a pretty well lit room you dont have to keep the light on all day just turn it on for a little while in the evening before you go to bed. That way he should get used to his reflection without stressing himself out and if he does get used to it then you could keep the light on all day, Try leaving the light off during the daytime hours and only turning it on in the evening. Hope this helps.

I only leave it on at night, but he still does it,
