Thinking bout moving my 10G into a 30 I've had sitting empty for a few monthes and thinking about getting a flame angel. I know they are dwarfs and should be ok in the 30G for life but just wondering what kind of stocking I can put with them. Thanks guys

Anything that's not another dwarf angel, and not big enough to eat it ;)

I love flame angels, they're just sooooooooo damn expensive!!

Thats a little general but what i figured. I knew they didn't like other angels too much, just wondering if there were any normal species that they are known to be communal with.

thnx ski

From reading some books this is a fish that is labled as a "non reason death" fish. One day it is healthy, the next morning when the lights click on it is dead...

Remember, flames do have a coral-nipping propensity. FYI...

Ya, I figured its gonna be fine because the one zoo frag i had has really gone down hill since power was cut off to my apartment a couple week ago. Apparently they needed to do work so they cut all the power to my apartment all day when I was gone  nice that they gave me notice..... The tank got pretty cold for tropical standards and the zoos have really gone down hill since then.... Luckily everything else is still seemingly doing ok. So the little bit that is left I'm not gonna worry about, if the flame eats it, it eats it o well, dont think im getting any more coral at the moment.

I've read this too but I figure its a beautiful fish and worth the risk. I'll get a good deal on it too so i def think its worth it. Thanks for the heads up though :good:

i have a flame angel with quit a few common fish and with coral and so far, "knock on wood" its been excellent, likes to keep in the LR swimming in and around pecking t the glass and LR eating the alegea, i have been keeping a close eye on him because of ski saying about the coral but as of yet nothing and its been over 2 weeks now. so with them its i guess a hit or miss

Well just keep an eye on him cause as soon as it runs out of algae to peck off the rocks I'm sure it'll turn around and start nibbling on the corals, but also depends on how much you feed it too. But they continuously graze whether hungry or not so it might be hard to stop even if you feed it well

Get it young and feed it well and it should be content with what ever else is going into the tank. I would advise putting it in last to minimize the aggression.

will do, but in all honestly, wouldnt any fish that hasnt been feed properly may start eating coral?? or would they rather die?

Well some fish are specialized coral eaters and will have more of a tendency than other to eat the coral. Obv, I would assume a carniverous fish will go after the other stocking before going after the corals

I guess I should start asking a few questions to see if this stocking would be ok as this is why this thread was started. Im thinking about a purple firefish, a smaller species of clown, a two spot goby, and finally the flame angel last. I would also add to my clean up crew 1 or 2 more turbos, a cleaner shrimp, maybe a peppermint shrimp.

I've heard damsels are very aggressive but would they work in a 30G community setting like this?

A question about the hermits I already have too..... the two big ones I have seem to always be locking shells, is this fighting? I assume it is and one if being picked on, but if I try to seperate them and they activily seek eachother out again and lock up again. I've seen this go on for 3 days in a row (the longest) but usually lasts for an hour or so and then they go their own way.

Eating coral is not necessarily as easy as it sounds ;). Fish have to have very adaptive physiology to counter the skeletons, nematocysts, and toxins corals use for self-defense.

Ox, I wouldn't put a damsel in a 30g. IMO, the tank is too small to accomidate its aggressive behavior. Your stocking level is just fine. Perhaps consider a flasher/fairy wrasse?
