thanks dave ill look into it mate as i do have several spare externals in the garage and maybe one will suit. ive been on the TMC website and it doesnt state flow rates etc, ill dig out the box and instructions to see if they have any more info :good:

i have same probrom, i wanted to use a external heater but the hydor i brought wont fit on the fx5, i do have a 405 maybe i will run the hydor and uv on the 405 and leave the fx5 just filtering, could i run the 405 without any media ie just as a circulating pump and then i only have 1 filter to maintain

cant see the point in that to be honest.... externals only need looking at every few months unless changing floss etc. you may as well fill it with media and then if one filter fails then you at least have a back up

Sorry to hijack the thread a little but I was looking at getting an FX5 and using a hydoe external heater on it. Is ther no way this can be achieved? Can you purchase seperate hosing to suite both items or is the fluval filter specifically designed to only accept its own hosing?

cheers,

Mark

Separate hosing could be bought so it can be cut etc but I think it will be too big for the hydor (16mm internal diameter required) as is and would need adapting...? Me thinks Fluval didn't really consider the filter being used this way what so ever...

Anyone actually managed to do this yet? If so how?
