Fishy Behaviours

Whenever i reach into my tank, the fish see the freckles on my arm - "Ooooh, food!" they say in their little fishy heads, and try to eat me up!

Luckily I have mainly tetra, and they are not man-eaters...

But this has made me wonder. How the heck do people with toothy fishies clean their tanks

Enlighten me please - might save some people from losing fingertips!

tetras have teeth there just not that big...

well if your tank consists of great white sharks or a group of piranhas that might be a problem.

most fish won't nip you if you qucikly put your arm into the tank. they will try and nip your fingertips on the surface of the water but it doesn't hurt just makes you jump back because of reflexes

yeh they just kind of nibble your hurt yourself more banging you elbow on something through reflex then from the bite


only thing that felt anywhere near to a bite to me was a large picasso trigger, didnt do enough to even draw blood though

my brutis the male jag, always goes crazy when i go into my tank, always trys to bite me, i have to be quick
what i do is syphon with one hand wilst ushering him with the net at the other end, hes destroyed on net already with his teeth, so now ive started using a stick to keep him at the far end
evil but you got to love him, will NOT Except any tank mates what so ever

My danios pick at the bubbles trapped on my arm. I think it feels quite neat. Today my gold gourami tried to take the tip of my finger off I felt a pretty good drag from him trying to bite my finger off. Lol. My female angelfish tried to do it to me before as well. Can't imagine something with bigger teeth

one of my oscars ( the mean looking one) is the same,always trying to eat me alive !!
hes never drawn blood tho, but he did on my sons girlfriend, which made my day
i reckon they just get excited about dinner time.. or cleaning time or anytime for that matter lol

When we first had our tank we had mollies and they would suck on your hand. I didn't like the feel of them doing it, but my husband thought it was funny. I didn't like putting my hand in the tank so my husband had to do all the cleaning, moving plants and ornaments around etc!
