I bought 2 Resun Magic-Jet (Magi-200) Internal Filters (pictured below) for my tank and over and above the other problem I had with the water which now seems to be clearing up i've had 2 fish die because their tail has got stuck possibly sucked into front grooves of this filter and it looks like they've drowned.

Is there anything I can do to stop this happening as i'm beginning to get really annoyed and wonder if it's all worth the bother.

Thanks

it's more likely the fish have died and then got stuck to the filter.

a healthy fish wouldn't get stuck to a smal filter like that.

fish can't drown, they breath water...
Fish breathe air, they take oxygen from the water using gills. So in essence if the water has low oxygen levels the fish would drown. Very poor explanation.

As Paul said, a healthy fish wouldn't be killed by that filter, unless it was a fry or very small or possibly large finned?

unless it was a siamese fighter that needs to get to the surface to breath air (labyrinth organ)....?

Right, i could go into a multi paged report on how non-labyrinth fish resperate, but i'm assuming he's not referring to low oxygen levels in his tank, rather his fish somehow suffocating from being pinned in one place. Simple explanation for a simple question.

Its much more likely that the fish died and were then sucked into the filter, or the fish became very sick and did not have the energy left to swim and were dying and then got sucked into the filter etc.
Basically, if the fish is healthy, it shouldn't have any problem with the filter- i have some suprisingly powerful filters in my tanks and even the guppys have no problem with them.

If your fish are mysteriously dying, you should try and get as much info on your situation as posible (like test the water for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and ph, check the tank temp, look at your tank cleaning maintanence regime, check fishes diet, check other fish for odd symptoms whether behavioral or physical etc etc).
Most issues with fish either come down to water quality problems or desease or both. Always make sure though that you have the basics right with them to begin with though, like you havn't overstocked your tank or added too much to the bioload, and that you are attending to each individual fishes needs properly (like you are feeding a carvnivorous fish the right food, or keeping a brackish fish in a brackish tank etc).

I had a good ROFL at that subject title. Sorry for the fish deaths though that always sucks.

BTW - that is a cool looking Eheim-type spraybar coming off that little filter. Almost makes it look like a Robo Cop watergun attachment or something.

And I agree with the others.....if adult fish don't get stuck to my AC110 intake hose they don't get stuck to most any filter out there.
