Hi,
I am new here...so this is my fishroom
Now I have my racking so I can set it up properly"Amuse"
In total it will hold:
1 60"x18"x24"
12 18"x12"x12"
5 18"x18"x18"
1 48"x12"x15"
4 24"x12"x12"
4 10"x8"x8"
total: 28 tanks
I have designed the racking to be high enough off the floor so I can put plastic growing on tubs.
All filtration will be powered by a koi air pump, it will power an air ring which will have valves leading off to power individual filters and my brine shrimp hatcher.
Temperature is kept at 26C (27C, when the heating comes on) by a energy efficient 450 plate heater and a small micromart fan to distribute the heat.
The fishroom is mostly aimed at cichlids, dwarf ones at that but I do have some Geophagus, Severums and wild Discus to keep the bigger cichlids keeper happy"Amuse" there will also be my breeding colony of wild L201 and various other plecs.
I intend to breed some of the rarer charachins and to raise my C.sterbai numbers so I can be producing pleanty of fry...
Another project for summer time is to make a small rack holding 5 16" tanks to breed the rarer wild type livebearers.
Any questions, please ask...I will update this thread as my room progress's...5fter is coming at the weekend"Big Smile"
Rack 1. which is the one in front of the windows has 4 tanks missing, the racking had to be changed at the last minute so I had ordered 10, which means I will have 6 for sale (PM me if you are interested)
Rack 2. is my Discus, Guinicara and (when they breed) Pelvicachromis Humilis 'liberian red'
Cube1: Guinicara Stergiosi, Cube2: Breeding pair of Blue Turks, Cube3: Breeding pair of wild "sunset yellow" discus, Cube4: future breeding tank for the Humilis.
You may notice that there is a substantial gap below the cubes...this is where my 60"x18"x24" wild discus biotype tank will be going (feature of the room)
Rack 3. This currently holds: 1 18"cube, 1 36" tank and 1 24" tank...
18"cube: Random Plecs, 3ft tank: Random SA cichlids, 24" tank: wild breeding group of L201 plecs.
This will be replaced by a 4ft long rack with 3 tiers which will hold.
2x 48"x15"x15", 1x 48"x15"x20".
1st 48"x15"x15": Breeding pair of Heros Severus, 2nd 48"x15"x15": What ever takes my fancy at the time"Blink1", 48"x15"x20": biotype tank for Manacuperu angels, with branchwood (still doing research on their catch area and what other fish live with them to create a true biotype)
The next area is debateable...there is a cupboard in the left hand corner, next to Rack 3...now if I knocked it out then I would have loads more space for racks as it opens up two new walls, but the cupboards are also excellent storage for all my fishkeeping stuff...its something to think about.
Under my racks there is 12" of floor clearence, this was going to be a useless space until I came up with a great idea....
Ste Chester was talking to me about temperatures in different areas of the fishroom, I measured and the difference is very minimal...but the temperature under the racking is roughly 23C (3C lower than the rest of the room) so I thought of a fish which doesn't need height, loves a large surface area and are temperate tropicals wanting a temperature of about 23C.
A freind up in Newcastle breeds them...so I have got onto him and hopefully he will be able to send me pleanty to start a colony! I have sorted out a tub aswell, its food grade and its dimensions are 56"x18"x8", it will be packed with moss and slate, flow and oxygen will be provided by power heads with venturis.
Any requests of pictures just ask
Right, done a little messing around on Paint and came up with a rough layout plan for the tanks, will get some pictures tommorow.
