Fishroom

I'd love to take that mudskipper off your hands, do you know which species it is?

It's a long way to london but I'll see if I can work something out.

CFC, your thermostat is set at 78c, Jesus man is it a sauna... :D

 thanks for pointing that out, ive edited it to fahrenheit now

After having heard so much about the fish you keep it's nice to finally see the whole room, thanks :good:

Do some of the tanks not have lights or they're just not that bright? (or they're off?)

It a Periophthalmus barbarus, if you want it its yours. Let me know when you can get down, Ami, Nina and Andywg are coming down on the 28th of this month for a boozy session so it would be cool if you could manage that day :hyper:

Yes some of the tanks dont have lights, the tanks with lights only have them switched on when i want to look at the fish and the rest of the time the room is lit by ceiling lights only, with the exception of the mudskipper which has its lights on 12 hours a day to keep the air temperature in the tank high.

Is that an air purifier?? I need one of those in my room. My room smells like the ocean :-( .Nice tank set ups. How much is the food and matinence stuff for it all?

I spend about £15 a week on food and buy dechlorinator and a bag of floss once a year, other than the occasional airstone for the sponge filters and the very occasional bottle of medication thats it.

The big white thing in the middle of the room is the heater.

What does the styrafoam under the tanks do?

It stops the tanks from shattering! Any tank with a flat base needs some styrafoam (polystyrene sheet in the UK) to cussion any vibrations through the stand and level out any imperfections otherwise they can crack.

Styrafoam is incredibly strong when laterally compressed, they put this stuff under concrete floors on buildings to prevent damp and cold rising through them. The weight of a fish tank on them is nothing compared to several tonnes of concrete.

Interesting.. I've never seen that before.. is the styrafoam that strong? it doesn't smush down when there's 600 lbs on it?

I thought that was pretty much standard, we've got polystyrene under all the tanks with the exception of the juwel and rena that have a floating base so dont need it.

There's a black plasticish rim around the outside of the bottom of my tanks.. not sure if that's the floating rim or not.

I think that floating bases are pretty standard on normal sized tanks in the US and Canada, once you get over about 120 gallons they go to flat bases as there is a risk of the weight cracking the glass on a floating base.

ohh I see... yea I don't have any tanks larger then 75g and all but 1 actually have the floating base I guess..

the one that doesnt though.. I'm starting to wonder if I should take it down and get some styrafoam under it.. it's a square acrylic tank
