Hello
I've been fishless cycling for about 10 days (using the add and wait method). My ammonia is now dropping to near zero in 24hrs with my nitrite reading today of 2ppm (mg/L). My only concern is my nitrate level is huge - >100ppm having initially been low (my tapwater has virtually none). I am hoping this is good news, but I am concerned the high nitate may inhibit further nitrite to nitrate converting bacteria.
Is everything on track?
Thanks
Shaun

Hi There,

Sounds good to me.
You can always change some of the water to get rid of the nitrate - just remember to keep adding ammonia to keep the bacteria alive - until the nitrite stays at 0 and you get your fishes
I agree with you - and I've said before - that I don't think having huge levels of nitrate is a good thing.
