Fishless Cycling- Question

Hi

I started my fishless cycle last Fri 25/05/12 by adding ammonia 5ppm. It is only today that it reads 0.25 on my chart (it stayed at the next one up for days upon days).
Is this correct that it should take 1.5 weeks for the initial dose to drop?
Also, as its only 0.25 not 0 should i wait for it to drop before i add more ammonia?
I cant yet test for any nitrites as i am waiting for my API kit to arrive (only have ammonia kit at present)

hi
just completed a fishless cycle mine took nearly 6 weeks!!!!!. The ammonia shifted pretty quick, as for the nitrite seemed like forever...i think my mistake was overdosing the ammonia in the tank not letting it go to zero before testing for nitrite .which gave me high nitrite readings... hope this helps and makes some sense lol best of luck..

It is not too unusual for it to take 2 weeks to clear that first dose of ammonia. After that the ammonia clears much more quickly.
