Fishless Cycling, nitrite spike

continue adding ammonia for about 2 days after you think its cycled just to make sure, then do somewhere from a 60-80% water change to get your nitrates down. once your ammonia and nitrite are at 0 and your nitrates are at a reasonable level you can get your fish.

The cycle is complete if the daily dose of ammonia disappears in 24 hours and your nitrites stay at 0. If the ammonia doesn't disappear, or if it does but you still get nitrites then it is not cycled. Do a large water change to lessen the nitrate and you are good to go.

Odd thing is that I've had 5ppm Nitrate and and around 5ppm ammonia for about 4-5 days and no change. Heh. :)
