Fishless Cycle

I got a 75 gallon tank about 3 weeks ago. I started the fishless cycle about 8 days ago. The ammonia is really high, off the chart, but the Nitrate and Nitrite's aren't even showing up. Do you think I have a bad test kit, or does it take a long time for Nitrates/Nitrites to appear?

did you add some gravel/decor/filter media from an established tnak? If not, then yes, it can take a while.

I'd wait a few more days before getting worried you should be fine

I have it set up for Lake Malawi Cichlids, I have rocks, coral substrate, a filter, and a heater.

Yes, it takes awhile for the nitrite to show up. It takes even longer for it go back down.
