The numbers should be good enough for those members who know how to read them. Lol. I'm still learning that part of it. I have well water so had to buy the test kits. Hopefully someone with more experience describing your data can chime in soon! I just knew to ask the question. Sorry I couldn't be more help! But hopefully someone can reply soon!

29 - 49 ppm hardness, I would actually say thats nearer to softer water than slightly hard tbh.

No bad thing, lots of stocking options with soft water. The only real issue I can see with that, is we will need the kH level, this is fairly important due to the fact this is the 'buffer', its what keep things stable and steady, the lower the kH the more unstable the pH levels can be.

This is what can affect the cycling.

Hi there,

don't start new yet. Can you give us a FTS, maybe we can spot something strange. Did the very same ammonia test kit show 0 for your established tank? So we can rule out any measurement error? Normally high ammonia levels are also toxic for plants.
If you took enough filter media from your established tank in the beginning, there should (in theory) be no need for cycling anymore.
What kind of substrate are you using? I have heard of some colored sand releasing ammonia.
