hi guys you have been so helpful along my jurney into cycling my tank but i am getting a little frustrated only because its been nearly 2 weeks since i put in 5 ppm of ammonia and its still only down to 2 ppm at this point and i thaught it should have droped right down by now,,,
It has been stuck at this level now for a few days and there is no traces of nitrite .I have a 90 ltr tank and using the pump filter system that came with the tank and havent touched it only waited and tested for amonia and recentley nitrite is this all ok or is there something wrong i just hoped about a week to fin first part of cycle so just a bit dissapointed its not droping of any more each time i test it....any advice would be greatfully received....thanks and forgive my spelling ...Thanks again Greg

Do you have access to mature gravel/filter media? can you purchase some from a good lfs?

I'd suggest doing a water change of 50% or so (make sure you de-chlorinate the water). Then bring the ammonia back up to 5ppm again.

This is to see of the cycling has stalled. If all is ok then the ammonia should start dropping again.

how does this work sorry if this sounds daft but ...if its not prousesing amonia anymore and i do a water change of 50 % and re add back amonia that iv just taken out in the 50 % im just putting back what i took out <<how does this make any changes to cycling and kick it along again .....
Again im not being cocky or chalenging your idear i just dont lituraly understand how this works Thanks

The water change isn't necessary, it's just what I would personally. So I can start/re-start with a clean(er) slate.

If you don't want to do that, just top the ammonia back up to 5ppm and see if it drops over the next few days.

ok mate thanks very much for your advice i will add some more amonia ...is this normal for the first part of the cycle to take this long or am i being impasiant

is it poss the filter system that came with my tank is not very big for storing bacteria
