Variatus platies (not variable :p) need to be kept as trios or all the same sex (but not just 2 males). 1 male with only one female will chase her until she becomes so stressed she gets sick and may die as a result. Get 2 females for every 1 male. Otherwise, skip this completely. Also, variatus get larger than the normal platies so, as you need a trio, maybe you are better off with normal ones.
Ummm granted I don't have the variatus strain of platty but I do have two in my community tank. One male and one female as it turned out (this was not planned, just what happened). The male doesn't bother the female. If he tries she turns on him. Maybe I just have a butch female.
Good luck with the tank pa3k84. And be patient while fishless cycling. It's enough to drive ya mad towards the end.
Hugs,
P.

That sounds good :) Just watch the angel doesn't turn on the male guppy in future (it happens sometimes). You should try to get the largest male you can find - not only is it less likely to be harmed, these are also generaly the least in-bred and healthiest. Females are larger than males anyway and have shorter fins so they should be fine and all your other fish would be fine.

good luck! and be care ul when buying the live bearers becuse toomany times have I bought pregnant females (ask the fish dealer if she's pregnant although they may not be able to tell you or they may lie to you, wanting to get rid of the pregnant fish, if it a bad pet store that just wants to make money)

Snailguy101 - I think the final list was for either a male OR a female... Which is why I was concerned. It'll be a single angel rather than a pair.

it will deff be a single one :)

thanx for all your help

yeah the angels will eat the acrdinals but it will be better to leave the chiclids out
