Fish Water - Good As Plant Food?

I have been using old tank water to water my "cut and come again" salad leaves, tomatos, peppers, cuecumbers and potatoes. - also on the herb bed.

Not only does the water contain organic fertilisers (fish poo break down products), but the water is warm so it quickly gets absorbed into the soil and doesnt stress plant roots (they aren't made cold)

Its good stuff. Just make sure you dont suck any fish up while making the water transfer!

It's good to recycle old tank water by watering your plants. The water you use to rinse out your filter media is especially rich in nutrients the plants can use. I always use it to feed my houseplants and they grow beautifully. :D

It makes good plant food. Especially since you don't have the water anyway, you have to either flush it or water you plants with it.

Just last night I filled up a watering can with tank water during a water change and used it to water the new grass seed outside.

sweet.

ya know, I've 'heard' of this before, but never thought about it until I saw the topic here... good call, my plants will love it.

Wow, never thought of using the dirty water that results from a filter cleaning.

Filter water and tank water is excellent stuff for plants. I had to rehome an Aloe vera that went BESERK and grew to immense proprtions on a diet of tank/filter water. It also had innumerable babies.

If you have a water butt that's used for watering plants, just dump the bucket contents in there. If it's an open topped type of butt, you will more than likely get a ton of mosquito larvae in warm weather too. Or just pour some into another bucket and leave it in a sunny spot. Free fish food!
