Hi, im moving house next week and i need advice, how do i transport fish water? plus reduce stress on the fish from moving?

clean containers for the water and a bucket with a lid on for the fish.

Large plastic gerry cans is what I have used in the past or homebrew buckets with the airtight lids.

i meant where do i get big containers to hold the water from?

depending on how much water you could use a water carrier from a camping shop and a koi food bucket if you know anyone with koi.

i dont but thanks anyways, need to get a gerry can then or a buket with a water tight lid

i get mine from travis and perkins and there the same ones pets at home use. the council provide us with 3 little buckets with lids, i use those to move fish around.

Those plastic storage boxes from DIY stores would probably do the job ok

thanks think best idea is gerry cans 2 should do the trick then i have a ton of fish bags

You don't really need to bring all the water with you. Just the fish. Then fill the tank with proper temperature water from the tap and acclimatize them to it, and you're good to go.

ill need to bring some tho wont i, as thats got the bacteria in it

The bacteria live almost exclusively in the filter; there may be a small amount in the substrate and other decor, but virtually none loose in the water.

The only reason to take a lot of your old water is if the water supply at your new house is very different in pH or hardness than your current supply.

Keeping your filter wet, and minimising the amount of time it's not running, is the most important thing for your bacteria.

ahhhh cool thanks for that info guess the guy at the fish store was wrong then. cool ill just take the filter in a bucet of water then

You might want to consider using some methylene blue in the water with the fish in it. It helps promote oxygenation of the fish' blood. It also acts as an antibacterial and antifungal. And last, but not least, it colors the water dark blue helping to calm the fish. That's what "they" say anyhow. Great stuff, but don't get it on anything you don't want stained. Eyedroppers and rubber gloves are good. Good luck with your move.
