I wonder if anyone had similar problem with their fish.
My fish are all looking healthy, active, eat loads...

But they all like to swin at an angle. If i look at them from the side of my tank, and stare at them head on, they are horizontal in the head-tail orientation, but about 15' off the vertical plane. I.e. the dorsal fin does not point straight up, but about 15' to one side. If they turn around, they tilt the other way.

I thought it was my filter causing the trouble, (one internal and one external) from the strong current, but the same still happens when i switched off the filters.

The tank itself is perfectly horizontal, spirit level is spot on.

Now that i've got discus in my tank, the tilt is much more noticable.

Funny eh? any ideas?

Need tank size in gallon or litres, how many fish and which type are in the tank, can you post water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Also what do you feed your fish, as to many dried foods can lead to swimbladder problems.

Ah... the stats... they all seem fine, ph 6.5, gh 7, kh 4, NH4 - 0, NO2 - 0, NO3 - 10 ( dosing fert for plants ), PO3 -1.5

bog standard Juwel Rio180, internal filter + Fluval 403 external, temp @29C, fully planted

6 glowlight tetra and 4 brown discus, 6 corys

was feeding Tetra-pro crisps, but now i've got discus, i'm feeding off the shelf frozen food.

The fish look happy among themself, just swim tilted. does not seem like swim bladder to me, as the side of tilt change with their direction.

got me completely puzzled.

Do you, by any chance, live on a very steep hill?

(sorry  )

:hyper:

Haha.... i've thought of that, and yes, there's a slight elevation where i live. But the spirit meter says the tank is dead upright. you thinking geomagnetic influences?

You mean they swim to one side that can be a sign of parasites, do they flick and rub on things, and hows there breathing is it laboured.

hum... not quite swimming to one side.

If you look at the from the front of the tank, you won't think they swim funny. perfectly normal behaviour.

imagine the fish are stationary in the middle of the tank, facing the right sid eof the tank,

then if you look from the right side of the tank, they are all tilted about 15', dorsal fin pointing to the front of the tank. If they turn around, head facing the left sid eof the tank, they tilt the other way. ie, the dorsal fin still point towards the front of the tank.

er... does that make sense?

and no, they don't flick or rub, breathing is fine

By the sounds of it nothing to worry about, fish can swim like that at times.

i guess it's not a disease or something.

i'm really curious bout it, as all the fish do it, even new arrivals.

hum... there's unexplained forces at work......

Maybe it makes swimming more interesting!!?

Or maybe one fish started, then another followed, then another and before you knew it there was a trend setting in. The new fish saw all the other "cool" fish doing it so thought they'd copy to fit in!!

- not such a silly theory really...?

LMAO, @ombomb!

But seriously, my lemon tetras swim like that regularly, I wouldn't worry about! My angel swims horizontally sometimes, honestly. Can be freaky if you see him from the front coz he looks like a really long narrow fish! :)
