So, my mom has an overstocked tank and I rescued her cory catfish and put it in my betta tank. Turns out, she found out and wants to get two more for her tank. *Sighs*. Is there anything small or a snail that does the same job as a corydoras? One that cleans up the excess food? Thanks.

*I realize corydoras are not technically meant to clean up excess food, I feed mine every day just like a regular fish. But mom doesn't know anything about fish, and I don't want her to kill two more baby corydoras.

Shrimp?

what does your mo have in her tank?

how big is it?

She has four black skirt tetras, six neon tetras, a bristlenose pleco, and two red wag platy's.
It's a 10gal. :(

oh have you tryed telling her she really overstocked and its killing the fish?

Malaysian Trumpet Snails ought to keep the substrate clean, they can multiply like crazy though so an assasin would help if you can convince her to go with snails.
Better option is to do what NC said and then get her to stop overfeeding so there isn't any leftover food in the first place.

Bnp will be stunted in a 10 for sure

+1 BNP will be waaaay too big.

Shrimp have a small bioload.  That's my recommendation.

Don't even bother suggesting it, other people have before and she won't get rid of any of them. She doesn't understand that it\'s overstocked, she says there's "No such thing". So instead I'm trying to make the best of it until I can save up and buy her a 30gal instead.

But, in the meantime, I will suggest to her shrimp.
Ghost shrimp are okay? I know they have those at the petstore.

How many should she get? I don't know anything about shrimp.

None of my other fish will eat them? Not even Houdini? (The pleco).

nO. Don't get ghost shrimp! They mix them with macrobrachium and the macros WILL eat the tetras!

I don't know what you call them in the US but what we know as Amano/Yamato/Algae Shrimp x 1-2 would.....work.... or even 1-2 Assassin Snails? They eat left over fish food as happily as other snails..

Okay, I'm going to link our PetSmart online store so you can see what they have. Because I don't know what and I need to get something by tonight D:

I'm not sure, you guys can identify shrimp and snails better than I can, they don't have some of the fish they really do online but they do have most of them.

If all else fails we'll go to our LFS.

Nothing there that I would buy!! :/

Alright, we'll go to our LFS and ask them, they'll probably have Assassin snails or Algae Shrimp.

the shrimp are in the live animal reptile section on the site...
you could call around and see they have some fun color shrimp your mom might like...like cherry shrimp or yellow shrimp. shrimp are funny.

your mom wont over stock a 30?
i mean inevitably?

No, I mean just move the 10gal fish to the 30gal and leave them like that ^^
