I've had 7 neons in my tank since it cylced and the other day i got a pair of blue rams. These are the first fish i've ever kept. I got the rams kinda on a whim thinking they'd look good in the tank but they're really interesting to watch, neons seem to float aimlessly but the rams actually look busy!

When working out what fish i shuld add to my tank i've been looking at sizes, colours, compatibility but a factor i haven't thought about till now is how interesting they are to watch.

i'm wondering if there are any really fun fish that i've been overlooking because of their appearence?

I love to watch my plecs, they are so cute and are mini acrobats! I know a lot of people enjoy watching their cories, saying that they have a lot of character; playing in the bubbles etc.

yeah cories are really good fun

just go to the lfs and watch the tanks and how they all interact, you'll soon see what's interesting :D

My electric eel is the best fish i have to watch, especially when there is food in the tank.

i was thinking about getting some panda corys but it's a tall 20gallon tank, 15''x21'' base so i'm going to see how much the rams swim around the bottom to decide whether the bottom will be too crowded or not.

the tanks at the fish shop all have glass bottoms and the fish seem to just stay in the same place, except for a few dozen silver sharks, schooling in their 4' tank - they look pretty cool but not so practical.

yea plecs are fun ! also i think clown fish are fun

Fish are all right- but if you want real entertainment, go for shrimps! My amanos have twice the character of any mere fish

shrimp was something i'd never considered. problem is i'm going for a south american biotype and the only south american shrimp i can find is reported as being impossible to get. It sounded like if you manage to get a hold of some then you have a responsibility and a duty to breed them.

Right, so you only wanted to be entertained by South Americans. Well, that is amanos out then, as they are definitely Asian.

But corys are great fun, as long as they don't get into trouble with the rams. Corys don't understand the concept of territory. But not sure how aggressive the rams would get if their territories are invaded.

Phantom tetras are another species to be considered. The males spend a lot of time displaying to the females and chasing each other, not aggressively, but quite nice to look at.

I get a lot of entertainment out of my porthole livebearers (poeciliopsis gracilis), but they are not terribly common, and I suppose they are really more Central American.

i love watching all my fish but our yoyo loaches are real characters & they often sit & watch what we're up to as well. our computer is right next to our tanks & one of the loaches caves is right next to that end & quite often if you look you'll see a set of loach whiskers peeking out from a crevice in the cave watching you & they'll swim up to the glass front if you wriggle your fingers at them.

My Blue Rams are a pair, very funny to watch, and I simply can't wait to get a few cories, as I've been told they are very playful and amusing!

not too sure what sex my rams are yet, think its a male and a female, but could be 2 females. hopfully they will pair up. i think i'll get a few smallish caves before getting any corys - hopefully there'll be enough play things to go around.

Please don't put corys in a tank with cichlids or any other potentially aggressive tankmates. Corys are totally defenseless against them. :/

all the sources i've seen have recommended corys as excellent tank mates for both blue rams and angelfish...

it was my understanding that rams and angelfish aren't very aggressive. Although one of my rams is continuously chasing the other, i'm unsure whether this is natural friendly cichlid behaviour or something more aggressive.
