Hello I have a 70 litre fish tank with 7 rummynose tetra in and 2 kribensis and I was wondering if shrimp would be able to go in this tank or if they would be eaten by the kribensis. Also is there any special requirements that shrimp need eg. Live plants or anything like that I should be made aware off thank for your help from Tom

Kribs would definitely eat the smaller shrimps (cherries, crystals, etc). You might be OK with amanos, which are somewhat larger.
Shrimp generally need some algae, but mine just eat fishfood.

The amano shrimp will do ok with Kribs but be sure to feed them algae wafers or something because they may turn on small and weak fish
Not sure about the kribs but I have rummynoses and neons and harlequins living with 5 amanos and they are all thriving. My amanos did bully my cherrys though and amanos if hungry can eat cherrys whivh I think was happening in mine so I seperated them x

This is the advantage of having shrimps, they have little bio load to add to a tank.
That's good then and with these fish in the tank would I be able to go for the smaller species of shrimp or should I stick with the larger ones as I like the look of the cherry shrimp. Also how many shrimp do you think I could add to the tank so that the shrimp do well but it does not over stock my tank from Tom
The bigger issue here is that a 70 liter tank is far too small for a pair of kribs with something else.
I have had this discussion on here before and the only reason that they are in the 70 litre is because they were killing fish in my 110 litre. The kribensis are fully grown now and they seem very happy and are always following each other around and trying to breed and I have a 40 litre grown out tank I know it's not very big but that's the only tank I have left and what size tank should they be in because I was reading they should be in a 20 gallon tank and mine is 19 so did not think that 1 gallon would matter that much from Tom
Yes, you've had this discussion with me. The recommendation for a 20gallon as you say does not include adding additional fish. Many other sources cite at least a 30 gallon tank. Now, on top of additional fish, you are asking about adding shrimp. My recommendation is no more.Seal36 said:

Hmm, a risk, really, mixing Red Cherry Shrimps with the gouramis and apistos.
You may get away with most shrimps surviving provided there is plenty of hiding places and java moss and small caves etc etc
But occasionally shrimps like to swim around the tank and go to the water surface, this is when gouramis will basically peck at the shrimps when they see them.
Might be ok but probably not.
BTW shrimps don't generally breed when they feel threatened by bigger fish swimming around in the same tank.
