Hi folks,

Can someone please post what my settings should be for, Amonia,Nitrite and Nitrate as I think I could have a problem. I had asked this before but my pc crashed and lost all my saved doc's.

Thanks for your Help. :good:

Charlie.

Ammonia and nitrites should always be as close to 0 as possible. As far as nitrates <30 is acceptable. If ammonia and nitrites are over .25ppm you should do 25-30% water changes daily to keep the toxins down while your biological filter builds.

ammonia and nitrite should be 0 not close 2 really....... nitrate is a very confusing 1 cause ppl have high nitrates with no problems at all but around the 10-20 mark is probably the average lower the better.

Thanks for replies. Its my Nitrate I am worried about. Fish seen to be Ok but when I did the test of the water it is a dark red and about 120. What do you have to do to get it lower. I have 3 tanks 2x 24" and 1x 48" and all have very high readings. All other readings seem to be OK.

Thanks.

a big water change say 50-60% will lower it and if it's still 2 high wait a few hours and do another slightly smaller 1.. wots levels are in ur tap water and wot test kit u using 2 test for nitrates?

how often do you do water changes and how much?

120 is no reason to panic, I bet you have high nitrates in tap water :D. I think it was proven that up to 400 nitrates wont cause harm to most fish.

I've got rainbows that have shown signs of being unhappy in nitrates over 30. The lower the better, and make sure you're reading the instructions properly - you may have a false reading.
