glad you are enjoying what i have done, altho i cant do anything till the weekend, i am still in two minds in to what colour/shade to stain the wood in, i do like the very dark brown colour but i think a nice soft yellow would do try and keep it more lighter what do you guys think?

aaw very nice, yes i do like that, i have a question for you tosh

But the Devil in me would like to ask, "Wouldn't it have been cheaper to buy a stand and canopy?"
Don't get me wrong, I love DIY, but it just seems so expensive.

haha yes i agree with you it would have been cheaper to buy a stand and canopy but, i in my own opinion they always look tacky with plastic and chipboard wood, rather than solid pine wood. i want custom lights to fit inside and this is effectively a custom cabinet made for a tank, i agree it is over kill but it fits everything i wanted from a cabinet that i don't think i would find anywhere else

i dont mind how expensive something costs as long as its what i want and it is fit for purpose and will last a long time

the way i have built this i think i have achieved all those

and the fact i LOVE a good DIY project haha

Fantastic Idea ! would love to try and undertake something like this when i get a bigger tank.
Is there any particular calculations you undertook to make sure the cabinet is strong enough to support the weight of the tank when full ? I converted an old table form my uncles into a stand (canopy came with my tank) and sured it up with extra supports but still worry it wont be strong enough.

Well I shall be honest I did not do any calculations but going by what other products and what other DIY projects have, most tank cabinets use just contiboard and my 330l tank is sitting on just 4 44x44mm posts as well and they supported that fine, the tank is only 88kg worth of water with other stuff I am going with 100kg in total the cabinet can hold
My weight and I'm around 70 to 80 myself so I am happy it safe I think I have gone over kill but every price of wood is screwed and glued to its neighbour so everything adds support :)

I just hope my judgment is okay haha :)
