Did you dechlorinate the water?
do they go up then down for a little bit. If so add water disturbance to increase the oxygen in the water

Yes we dechlorinated the water, i have just taken some of the water out so its got a gap now see if that works where do you get the water disturbance from as i havent heard of that (maybe im just a bit blonde LOL)

Was the water over-heated? Sounds very odd...
What species fish are they? :shifty:
We have silver shark, 5 mollies,2 angel fish, red tailed shark, 2 tiger barbs. We have a big filter system in it cant remember what it was as husband is at work, we have had the tank and fish since April and everything has been good no problems. we were away for a fortnight and my daughter saw to the fish the water level was a bit lower than normal when we came back.Could it be filter needs cleaning as well and when we have added the water doing water and that could be causing it

Sorry think im panicing a bit here, what i meant was when we did the water change earlier we put the level up to how it was before we went away, just found the filter box its a fluval 4. dont think it is working how it should be so we are cleaning filter making sure its not clogged

Don't panic, pm sent look at the top right hand side of the screen in new messages....

also on a note, did you dechlorinate before adding the water?
if not do that in future as chlorine kills the bacteria in the filter,

How much waters in the tank don't affect the fish as far as I know :/
and Disturb the water mean causing motion as Oxygen transfer is not performed by the bubbles entering the water,
it's caused when they disturb the top of the water, causing the layer to be pierced in a sense making oxygen transfer happen,
Sorry I cant explain it to well hopefully some one else can.

p.s on an off topic note, keep an eye on the Redtailed shark they like to be on their own and might get a little big and bully your other fish

Has your filter been kept about 2cm below the water level, so that there are ripples on the surface?

Hi Joanne, have they sorted themselves out now or still at the top of the tank?

Spoke to the OP on MSN last night, the problem appears to have been likely down to a rushed water change, possibly as a response to non-heated water.
Op wasn't sure, but the fish are all good and well......

Hi
just letting you all know everything is fine with fish and tank now. Would like to thank you all for your replies and a BIG THANK YOU to germ for all his help and stopping me panicking. Think it was due to the water change normally we leave the water in a bucket to get to room temp but we didnt do it this time as DH was due to go to work on a night shift we know for next time not to rush it.
thanks again teesuk
