you dont under stand ppl. his tank isnt over stoked and his fish arnt that big, when u see his fish they all seem happy. they dont look sad or depresed or they dont just sit in on corner of the tank. they all swim happily around!!! he saved that blaclk ghost from death. irt was in a tank full of barbs and it was being ripped apart. he bought it and now hes healthyier then probably ur fish.

We understand where your coming from, but you must try understand where we are coming from.

Your friends tank may not be overstocked at the moment but given some time the fish will grow larger and the tank will become overstocked.

We can't stop your friend from going out and buying another fish, but all we want to do is give him the facts before he does something that could create a disaster in the tank.

HE DOES ASK THOSE QUESTIONS!!!!
The 1 inch of fish per gallon is for adult sizes not babies. That tank is grossly overstocked, a BGK shouldn't be kept in something so small.

Tandanus Catfish-30 inches
Juvie Angel-6 inches
Black Ghost Knife Fish-20 inches
Peacock Eel-15 inches
Corydoras-I don't know what kind they are so I don't know how big they get
Bristlenose Pleco-somewhere between 4 and 8 inches

Please don't shout , we are trying to help .

Who answers your friends questions about fish adult size , He may be getting bad info .

This forum is a great place to find information , we are not trying to knock you or your friend , only trying to help .

sorry for shouting.

Before he buys his fish he asks the worker at the lfs about the fish. but once u see his tank ull agree with me its not overstocked.

as i said, it may not be overstocked now, but, once the fish grow, the tank will be overstocked.

All the best for your friend, and i hope he can get some funds together to buy a new tank, if he wishes to keep the fish he currently has

I don't know much about the other fish....but 2 bristlenose plecs in a 15 gal is overstocked on their own....you need at least 20gal for that many bnoses...

When you buy fish and do the stocking thing you need to look at their sizes as adults..not when you buy them...its like buying a cot for a baby and expecting it to sleep in it for the rest of its life......

well im not sure if there's a difference but hes got bristle nose catfish, and theyre preety small.

and he is look for a tank.a nd trying to save up for a nice big one.

great to hear that! Tanks can be pretty expensive over this part of the world...the hobby hasn't really caught on

Bristlenose catfish=bristlenose plec....same thing!!

I bought my male bnose when he was tiny....1 inch long and skinny....he is now, 4 months later...3 inches long and fat....my female is 4 inches long and growing!!

They can get upto 6 inches

Great...if you are planning on getting a bigger tank...but you shouldn't buy fish for a big tank will you have the tank

hey

im trying to stop him best i can. but everytime we got to a lfs and he sees an oddball he basicaly just has to have it. :X but i try

what oddballs usually show up your way?

over here we usually get ABF's, BGK's, some elephant nose's time to time...

ye we got mostly all the ones u listed and some more. im not sure. ive only been to 90 out of 92 lfs in west aus :fun:  the most popular we got are bgkf. but its expensive. ABF's, BGKF's and elephant noses that are 4 -10 inches are around 33 AUS dollars.

EDIT: he also just gets fish that are unusual.i.e he saw a head stander fish(im not sure wat kind oif fish it is) and i had to pull him back so he couldnt get it.

Shouting happens here , I myself am guilty .

Don't always believe the people at the pet store .

You guys , use your computers to search a fish your buddy likes[GOOGLE is great for me ].

Find out what adult size it reaches , and how much room it needs to live . Then come here , or another site and ask if anyone has had experience with the fish .[ before he buys it ]

I've been in the hobby for more then 30 years now , and still have trouble with impulse buys ,I know how hard it can be to resist .

The fish he has now are most likely very young, and will grow pretty big .[ most of his will] .

I've been there.
Good luck Bea and Silva
maybe he could find used equiptment .

now then everyone is trying to give you good advice if you just listened you might learn something and please dont take that the wrong way. i am sure at sometime if we are all honest we have all overstocked at sometime!!!!!
but if you just got a bigger tank you fish will grow better and bigger quicker hope all goe's well in the future....... :kana: :kana:
