hey all,

Nearly finished cycling, ammonia is coming down in 8-10 hours, just waiting for the Nitrite to fall before I do a water change to get rid of the Nitrate.

So i've started thinking about fish, I havent researched my wish list much yet, I wanted to check here that they will be compatable/suitable for a beginner before I do some serious homework.

I'd like;

10 Neon Tetras
4 Glass catfish
1 redtail shark
1 coolie loach
1 banjo catfish

What are your opinions? Tank is a Fluval 125L which is heavily plastic planted, filter is a Fluval 205.

Would it be too many fish for my tank? any fights likely to breakout?

I am open to suggestions to other fish if the above arent good choices for my tank/experience.

Many thanks in advance, guys.

stocking looks ok-ish,
you have both neons and glass catfish which can be quite sensitive in new tanks, (glass cats more so)
you will also probably need to upgrade the tank once the RTB shark matures as it will likely become quite aggressive due to the small tank size.
kuhli loach also do much better with sand substrate and are also best kept in groups

i agree too, however, through my experience, i don't think the glass cats are that sensitive to new tanks. neon tetras on the other hand, tend to be very sensitive to newer tanks.

why not ditch the banjo cat and get a few more khulis?
and, instead of the neons, some black skirt tetras?

i mean, its totally up to you and we're just giving advice ;)

EDIT: i would also consider how much stress the red tailed shark would put on the neons.

i would scratch the shark unless your planning on getting a bigger tank... (you wil hahahaha sorry) and scratch the kuhlis unless you add more . they are also nocturnal (if i remember correctly) and you probably wont get to enjoy them very often. its ultimately up to you but i once had them in my plan but scratched them out for that reason.

hey all,

many thanks for your posts :)

I appreciate your input!

OK i'm going to scrap the red tail and the kuhli loaches, what would you reccomend instead?

I'll go for black skirt tetras too instead of neon's, and 4 or maybe 5 glass cats.

banjo catfish might be a bit too much. why dont yo cut the neons down to 6 and get a few endlers. so far though your stocking options sounds nice. i would loose the plastic plants and just try normal plants but that is me.
good luck

i would go with apistogramma cacatuoides. They are small peaceful (territorial) and they grow to have amazing colors... imo. 10 tetras is good. Its good to have a bigger school of one kind of fish then 2 smaller groups. Good Luck

thanks again, all

black molly - I've already decided to scrap the banjo cat.

AxelF - i'll look into apistogramma cacatuoides, thanks

IMO a bigger school looks better too

you're ditching the shark so neons would be fine if thats what you were hoping for.
i think an apisto cacatuoides would look really good with about 10 neons tetras too :good:

instead of the shark and khulis... erm... have you read about corydoras?

I read abit further up that neons can be sensitive to new tank set-ups. I was planning on ditching them, but im not sure?
I'd like to have a school of them, because they're so pretty.

I havent read about corys, no. Any particular corys I should be looking at?

Blue Steel Killifish look nice, I've read that are good for community tanks too?
