I plan to build a small betta cube (8"x8"x8") out of pieces of glass. Can I just use any type of 100% silicone? Will it be fish-safe as long as its 100% silicone? Why are some silicones safe for fish and some arent?

Some silicones have anti-fungals added to keep them from growing mold in the wet conditions where they are usually applied. The anti-fungals are toxic to fish. Even if it says 100% silicone, it may have some toxic additives. GE Silicone I has no additives, it's what All-Glass uses to seal their tanks, & that is what is in tubes of All-Glass aquarium sealant. If you can't find GE Silicone I, stick with something sold for aquarium use.

You mean General Electric right? Thats what I got when I googled "GE Silicone". Does every single type of silicone made by GE contain no additives? Hope so. Thanks! :)

Yes, GE means General Electric. Only the silicone I contains no additives, use the others at your own risk.

At Lowe's and Home Depot in the section with all the glues and sealants, they have various tubes of Silicon. One is "Dap Aquarium Silicon". There ya go :)
