Greetings! While new to the forum, but not to the hobby, I've been captivated by the quality and wealth of information in Tropical Fish Forums.

Some may be in the midst of building the ideal fish room, others of us may be planning the room of our dreams, waiting for the day we hit the lottery. Unfortunately, I've only noticed snippets of creating or running a fish room tucked away in a planted tank journal or DIY forum. I think most members would enjoy reading and participating in a forum on fish rooms and hatcheries. Besides enjoying photographs and descriptions surrounding the individual efforts and results, it would be useful discussing information such as layout, structure, filters, air supply, heating, lighting, food production, and so forth. While there is no ideal solution for everyone, the amazing creative efforts of the members is sure to be interesting to all.

Regards,
Jim from New Jersey

There just wouldn't be enough traffic in the forum for it to be worth it. Why not just use the search function for "fish room" etc.?

No. I think thats a great idea. I would so go in there. I love looking at peoples fish rooms

The idea of a fish room/hatchery forum is multipurposed:
- Give members the opportunity to see various room layouts.
- Spark an idea from the photos
- Document the process of building
- Provide solutions unique to fish rooms (multiple tanks in tight proximity)
- Allow members to showcase their hardwork.

A search of "fish rooms" returned 27 pages of results with only a couple specifically addressing fish rooms.

But forums require support, members will decide if it will be useful, and if there is enough traffic.

I agree this would be a great forum. I am really into breeding my fish. We could have people give their breeding advice and have breeding profiles for every fish that people submit. Giving advice and homeade solutions to snags in the breeding process.

But have you not just proved why there is no need? Only a few of the many people on this forum have fish rooms. It would be a good idea if there were more people with fish rooms, instead of the maybe 5 or so that do.

But people with fish rooms don't always breed fish. Breeding questions are more often than not answered in the section of the forum dedicated to that type of fish. Though a breeding section may get more traffic, the posts themselves could go in the sections the fish belong to nearly always.

I for one would have found it a great rescource to look through when building ours....

I might even have been able to afford to keep it running if I had of been able to discuss with others, heating methods etc... :D

There used to be a breeding section, but this was incorporated into the species sections as most people were asking breeding questions in there.

But what stops you asking in the TCC, or hardware section? Having a section with only two threads in it wouldn't be that much use.

Yeah but tons of people ask questions about invertebrates in the tropical fish section, should we remove the invertebrates too? :kana: :bday: :eek:sama:

No, because there is a specialised forum for them (due to the number of questions asked about them), so they are moved down.

With the breeding section there were two complete sections where breeding questions could correctly be placed. TCC is a catch all for anything and often has posts moved to the more appropriate area.

I too think it would be too specialised, only about 5 of the active members actually own a fishroom, and there is only so much they can say about their fishroom so there wouldnt be much traffic.

Maybe broaden the idea a bit, like some kind of "projects" forum?

i dunno, i dont really think we need a forum for this.

How about a "journals forum" would be like what your saying but would have people just putting pictures of there tanks and in the process of setting there tanks up, how they saved money along the way etc. That way there would be more traffic and people could see the process of others tanks being set up.
