Fish problems

They will only sometimes eat the fry. Most often some will survive. I have mine in a guppy and platy tank and about half of the the fry survive. (Both types)

Edit: fish store people generally dont know very much about fish, their compatibility, or their care. Most of us on here learned that the hard way. Resulting in sick fish, population explosions and worse

Each birth can be up to 60 fry, with approximately 1 birth per month for each fish.

(Also I edited my last post)

About fry? If you see any just let them grow up and sell them or give them to your pet store. Or take the females back to the petstore and say you found out that the females can still give birth up to a year after being separated and ask for males Instead.

Were they in a separate tank than the males when you bought them?

Will do. Thanks.

You say they are all females - did you choose them yourself to make sure they were all females or did you allow the store person to choose them? Because I would not trust a store person to be able to tell which are males and which are females.

The person at the store said that the fish eats her babies so I shouldn't be worried about extra fish.
This is true...The adults will eat MOST of the fry (baby fish) but if you have any places where they can hide (i.e. plants, rock crevaces, driftwood with small holes), they will hide until they are big enough to not get eaten. You probably won't even know they are there, until one day you see a few minature plattys swimming around in your tank. I know this from experience!! It is very cool to see them grow up. I started out with 5 plattys and ended up with 9. This was years ago in my 28 gallon.
