Hello! I am new here, and I am seeking some advice. I have recently got some new fish, and they are acting a bit strange. One of the fish is staying in its location, only moving a little bit to try to scare any other fish in it. Its location is near the heater. The fish is also pregnant. Wondering what the problem is with this fish. Is it sick? It is also not eating any food. Another problem I have is the fish are staying to close to the heater. I have 4 fish (one is the pregnant one, which is not moving like the others) the other 3 fish are moving around find but sometimes tend to go to the heater. Here is another question, I have 1 yellow fish, 1 orange fish, 1 red fish (red is pregnant one) and 1 grey fish. The yellow fish chases the red and the grey fish, but not the orange. The red chases the grey one. These fish are all the same breed. Im wondering why they chase each other in this sequence. Keep in mind, they are all the same size. Hopefully somebody can help me out! Thank you!

Hi,

Could we have some more details please.

What species are the fish?
How big is the tank they are in?
Are there any other fish in the tank besides the ones you mention?

Photos would help as well :)

How long has the tank been set up for?
What is the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH of the tank water?
What is the water temperature?

the tank has been setup for two days. 1 day before the fish came. The water temperature is around 25. I don't understand what you mean by the ammonia part, sorry I'm new to all this.

He means if you tested the water with a test kit what were the results. Since you.cant test and the tank was not cycled do a daily water change of 50-75%

38L tank and they are platyfish
Platys are live bearing fish that need to be in groups of 3 females for every 1 male. If you have say 3 males and 1 female the males will fight with each other over the female and constantly try to mate with the one female leading to stress and eventual death
Im guessing you have more males than females or an equal amount of males to females. If one doesnt want babies get all female platys if not 1 male 3 females. All males might be ok but they can get a little agro with each other, all that pent up mating energy;)

Oh, I forgot to mention. I only have female fish to stop them from breeding.

You only have 1 female? She will be harrassed, sometimes to death by the males. And she will still breed

Ok. They may still have fry if they have ever been with a male as they can store sperm packets for up to a year and have multiple pregnancies from one mating

The person at the store said that the fish eats her babies so I shouldn't be worried about extra fish.
