fish pond for my porch?

Go to the fish pond/outdoor/plant section of your local Lowe's or Home Depot and look for the old wooden whiskey half barrels. They're actual whiskey barrels cut in half and used and sold as outdoor planters for container gardens, etc. There is also a black plastic liner in the pond section that will fit perfectly inside that barrel. I holds around 20 gallons and is perfect for a couple goldfish/fountain/filter/lily pad. :)

The best thing about this setup is you don't have to decorate around it unless you want to...unlike a rubbermaid tub....that if you get one of those long 55 gallon ones, you will have to reinforce with brick/whatever because the middle section isn't strong enough to hold the water and it will bow out.

If you're looking to build around something though...THAT will be your best bet...just remember to reinforce those middle sides with some cement block or whatever.

Just a very thin substrate of bright gravel (say almost white to light blue) looks REALLY nice as it reflects the sunlight and really shows the fishes' colors. :)

I had both of these setups on my patio and they did very well.
