I love fish. I love keeping fish, watching fish, buying fish, taking care of fish... everything. I've got 2 tanks. Many say I'm obsessed, but I consider it a hobby. I have to say, some things that scare me are those who really are obsessed with fish. People who have 10+ tanks or have a fish room of nothing but tanks disturb me. To me, having that many fish and tanks is not a hobby but an obsession. How can you appreciate the beauty of each tank when you have so many? Think about how expensive and time consuming it is to take care of so many tanks. I wouldn't want more than 3 nice tanks myself. I don't mean to sound rude, but don't some of the people who have fish rooms have lives? Families? Significant others? It makes me curious.

Soooo, here are some questions. How many tanks do you have? How many tanks would you want to keep maximum? What do you think about people who have dozens of tanks? Doesn't it disturb you a little?

I don't mean to sound mean. I really am curious, though. I just couldn't imagine devoting all my time into taking care of fish. D:

i had 4 tanks but have changed down to 2 so that i can spend more time focusing on my marines. i would love to have more tanks but i am in sixth form at the moment and my paents think that two is enough and they weren't happy when i surprised them with my betta tank.lol but i would love to have a fish house. it is not as bad as people think because you can drain your tanks all at once. and then use a simple water purifier to top up the tanks. so it is not as time comsuming as you would think.

People who have fish rooms, often have systems that take 25% of the water out of a tank, and into the drain, simply by turning a tap...Or through their external filters...So it actually only takes two of three hours a week, so they dont have to devote ALL their time to fishkeeping

People who do have fish rooms, (often) have either loads of small (5-10G) tanks, or a couple or 3 huge ones...Because alot of people who have them either devote most or all of their tanks to small fish, like killis or bettas, or giants like stingrays and catfish....you dont get many people with lots of communitys, with fish of 2-4".

Its like someone who devotes all their time to playing football or swimming, because they enjoy it. And i think that if you have the time and the money, then why not enjoy your prefered hobby to its full potentiol???

If i did have enought space and money to get a fish room going, then i wouldnt mind how many tanks i had, as long as it still allowed me the time to enjoy my other hobbies, and for me to be able to do my coursework etc.

No, I don't think it's disturbing. Like Catfish_are_cool says people with loads of tanks have routines (like me) and system's to make everything easier. By having more tanks they are getting more experienced with different fish so they are more knowledgeable. For example, somebody who enjoys golf will play many different courses to be challenged and improve their game - it's similar with having lots of different fish.

Very true timmy, and good example :p
Why didnt i think of that... ;)

Personally It doesn't disturb me at the least. I have four tanks, and two of them my dad takes care of since I am not living with him at the time. I actually give two thumbs up to people who have 6+ tanks because it takes a skilled fish keeper to maintain all those tanks, and do the waterchanges on a regular basis. Well done you fish lovers out there!!! :good:

i only have 2 tanks, one being a spare tank for sik or pregnant fish.
im sure if i could then i would have as many tanks as possible and that i would be capable of looking after.

i do admire people on this forum who dedicate a lot of thier lives to fish and animals in general, just think , if we didnt have these people in the world and on this forum , who would we learn off ?
i deffinantely wouldnt be as knowlegeable if we didnt have this forum with experianced fish keepers who have more than 3 or 4 tanks.
when i am older and capable of providing a good home for many fish and tanks then i wil have more tanks, but i wouldnt call it disturbing at all, i call it a very good intresting hobby, and in my eyes a bit unusual than playing football or any other sport etc..... keep up the good work guys and its NOT DISTUBING

I have to aggree with you b.c.f.c :good:
I dont find it in any way disturbing...
And its true, who would we learn off?

People who gain experiance from having multiple tanks try new and rare fish...some of which havent ever been kept in captivity before...take CFC for example. He had kept a Takifugu Ocellatus and a Threadfin paradise fish, both of which are extrodinarily hard to keep alive. Without the more experianced and 'daring' aquarists, then where would we be.

We'll have to see what some of the fishroom owners have to say about this :hey:

My boyfriend and I currently have 5 tanks in our house - one large, one large bow front, two medium and a betta tank. We won't be getting anymore for a while as we have no more space left! By having a large number of tanks we are able to keep all the fish we like - so we can keep our favourite peaceful species, but also our favourite aggressive species; we can keep Malawi Cichlids, but we can also have a betta, and community fish. It's nice to have the variety without the casualties :)

We also keep reptiles and mice, and one day I'm going to get back into falconry.
