Fish Memory

I'm convinced that fish can tell the difference between us humans too - or at least some major distinguishing features such as hair colour. The fish in my tank (see sig) are all pretty shy (in the dining room so they are not used to constant human watching)

They get fed three times a day (little and often as the saying goes) as this seems to reduce their aggression.
In the morning (just after the light goes on) I feed them everyday - and they hang around the op when I come near the tank (before I even open the lid). If my fiance walks past the tank they hide.

Between 5 and 6 my fiance feeds them, if I walk near the tank then they hide. And she feeds them before we go to bed too.

My fiance has blonde hair whilst mine is black. When some of our friends visit they will either have to sit still and silently in front of the tank for 10 minutes for the fish to come out..... or come round in the morning if they have dark hair or the evening if they have blonde.

They also recognise my blue bucket for water changes as food from either of us will not tempt them out.

are fish intelligent....do bears go in the woods?!

Thanks platypus. :)

The cichlidiot is a custom title I gave myself. It doesn't have anything to do with post count. :)

This thread cracked me up - First, fish breeder geeza and thinking she can see the fish mouthing 'mum mum mum' as they swim around!!!   and then smb's little story about playing splash games with the flowerhorn!! That's awesome.

Btw, I've known for years that some fish are smart and have memories like elephants. There is NO doubt in my mind that my angelfish can recognize me from clear across the room. My pleco absolutely knows me, too. If other people get too close to the tank, he immediately goes to his den, but he'll stay out, basking on a piece of slate, even when my hands are in the tank.
