Well, we lost our last dalmation molly yesterday and the last clown loach today  I don't get it. I have a few other kind of loach and they do wonderfully.

I guess it's the hard water because all my other stats are good. That really sucks though because I had planned on getting a 125 gallon in the spring and I wanted to have 3 or clowns and was looking forward to them growing big.

So that makes mollys, clowns, and glass fish so far that cannot survive in my tank. :-(

Well that doesnt make sense because mollies thrive in hard water, I would never keep them in soft water.

In fact, mollies can thrive in marine tanks.

What are the exact stats? How long has the tank been set up? Did they look or act at all strange before hand? And what did they look like when they were dead?

Stats are ammonia: 0 PH between 8 and 8.3 Nitrites 0 Nitrates 5 The tank has been set up and fully cycled for about six months.

My son wanted them and we have gone through four now, Two at a time. Out of the first two, the first one lasted a few weeks and got really skinny right before he died. The second one lasted about a month and got slowly bloated before he died. ( thought maybe it was a female with fry) The last two lasted maybe a week and both got bloated the same way before they died.

All of the clown loaches seemed to be feeding but remained really skinny before they died.

46 gallon....And I have 2 Angels, a betta, Dwarf Gouramis, and a few different kind of loaches as well as ghost cats and a couple of upsidedown fish that have been in there since the tank was cycled and I have had hardly any losses from any of these fish. (two ghost cats and two kuli loaches a couple of months ago, but they were new from the store when they died)

My son is really sore about it because the mollys were one of his favorites. And I'm sore because I loved the clowns.

Maybe PH to high?

my ph is between 8.0-8.2 and i have kept clown loaches without a problem biggest growing to 8inches before i sold the group which ranged all the way down to 2inchs....

whats your temp in the tank?
whats your filteration like and also how do you maintain filter, including waterchanges?
also do you have plug in or use airfresheners in near or around the tank?

The temp in the tank is between 79 and 80 according to the two therms.

I have a marine bio wheel 200 which I believe is for up to 50 gallons. I put in a new filter once every two weeks and do a 25% water change every weekend. I was doing 50 to make the tank extra clean but the LFS said that might be what was killing my fish because it might be too much. I have been doing 25% for three weeks now and the fish still died.

No plugins or freshners.

I do put water conditioner in with every change. We have well water, so I don't know if that could be it. I don't understand why my other fish seem to have no problems. Including the other kinds of loaches. I don't have any choice but to use the well water.

I test frequently and I just can't figure out what it could be other than that my crappy water makes the difference in some kinds of fishes.

That sounds to me kind of like an internal parasite or bacterial infection. You can try medicated food, and you can also re post this question in the Emergency section.

Good luck! :good:
