Today i got 2 new fish, as i thought my problem was over, i got 2 Apistogramma viejita, The 2 new fish are fine, but now all my other fish have again within hours got symptoms, I have just watched my Mollie, spasm and die. And my 2 loaches are constantly scratching in the sand. I ahve also noticed the fish are breathing rapidly.
I thought the problem had gone away as it has been a good few weeks, Last time i treated with ick, but i think i was wrong with diagnossis, so i come to you experts for help. :good:

The fish have no white marks on them at all, I just really don't know what it is :(
Should i move my new fish into my fluval chi for the time being?
I will now conduct a test of the water, and see how things are.
But any ideas?

Thanks
Westwood

In my limited experience flicking with no visible cause is usually gill or body flukes however someone more informed will be along to help soon hopefully.

Ammonia 0
PH usually 6.5 but the sample has turned Blue? which would be off my scale and about 10?
Nitrite 0.3mg/l
nitrate 80mg/l
Test kit used is a Nutrafin test mini master test kit (liquid based)

Edit: retested ph is 6.5, false test.

I have noticed the same behavour with my blue acara, tomorrow i'm going to treat with sterazin by waterlife. I know its not gill or body flukes so i'm thinking its a internal parasite.

Keith.

I would do a retest of the PH in it jumped that much that could caused the trouble you are having
if it that high i would do a major water change to start to correct the ph

I did a retest, it turned out to be back at the usual 6.5. Should i do another? First sample must have got contaminated.

If you are getting positive readings for nitrites you need to start waterchanging. Niritie poisoning could be causing the symptoms. I've heard it feels very uncomfortable to fish... sort of an understatement since positive nitrites can kill. Do a 50% water change and then test daily and water change accordingly until the nitrites stay at zero.

Hi thanks for the advice, i was planning on getting back tonight to do a water change, but as it happens i decided to slip on a manhole cover on my motorbike, so my wrist is out of action for the night. I shall retest water now, but i can't do a water change. The fish do seemed to have stopped scratching,Is there anyway i can do anything to help?
