I cleaned out the filter for my bumblebee catfish's tank today, because it was so clogged with algae and whatnot that it was barely running (it's an internal filter, and is prone to that sort of thing.) I knew the catfish usually liked to hide behind it, but I didn't see him when I took the filter out, so I just went about my business... After that, I cleaned out all 13 of my betta bowls in the same sink, and about five minutes after I had finished, my mom came home.

...Suddenly, I hear "AAACK!!" coming from the kitchen, followed by "There's a fish in the sink!!!!! Samantha, did you know???"

I run in there to discover my bumblebee catfish, sitting calmly in less than an inch of water and looking at me like "well it's about time!"
He's fine, and has now been returned to his tank. I guess he was hiding IN the filter rather than behind it, and I didn't notice him when I rinsed it out.

I'm surprised he survived that, really, and without a scratch no less... kinda scary at the time, but it makes a pretty good story now
I especially liked my mom asking if I knew there was a fish in the sink... yes, mom, of course I knew I had left my lovely little catfish high and (nearly) dry

I'm scared to do anything fish-related with a sink, I had a betta jump during a water change [from the net into the sink as I was trying to put him back in his bowl] and end up in the U-bend, so now I'm pretty paranoid.

I'm very happy to hear your bumblebee survived though -- they're such cute little fish!

Deja Vu ...

Got a big tree-stump looking thing in the middle of the tank. It's hollow in the middle and our clown loaches like to hide in there. Last Saturday was "clean the stump" day. I carefully picked it up a little and shook it gently. First one then another loach appeared and gave me a dirty look. Didn't see number 3. "Oh well, hiding somewhere I suppose."

Proceeded to take the stump to the sink so it wouldn't drip all over the floor. Back to the tank to vacuum up my 5 gal bucket full. Poured that in the sink. As the water level in the sink rose, who should come popping out of the stump but loach #3.

Have to be a bit more careful next "clean the stump" day...
