Thanks, man! Funny you should say that, i've already been thinking of another!
Dean.

Well guys all of the frogbit i purchased (5 plants) deteriorated to the point i had to take them out. I guess the biorb leds aren't enough for them, or they didn't like the surface water movement. *shrug*

Anyways the tank and water parameters are all still good, but I feel like i'm neglecting the tank with just 1 w/c per week after going though 6-7 weeks of religious water changing

Dean.

Good to hear that your tank has stabilised!

My frogbit fights against a current (albeit mild) and a bunch of root-trimming Ilyodons that take them back to about 2-3cm from the leaf, but they battle on, so I'm betting on LED light...but then my bets rarely come in!

This happened to me to when I first started and ended up in a fish-in cycle  I felt soooo lazy. One 25% water change a week? No way!!! lol I do a 50% every time because I know how easy that is compared to a few 95% changes in one day.

Hey guys, it's been a long time since posting here on my thread, mainly becuase there's not much to report. The biorb has been running fine, well up until yesterday evening! I noticed a problem with the air pump while turning it back on after feeding.

The air flow was very weak, and today there's no air flow at all. I opened up the pump to see it there was anything i could possibly do to get it running again, but no chance as part of the mechanism has broken. #41#### thing, this had to happen on the weekend, and i have no lfs nearby. What would be the best way to proceed until i can purchase a new pump, should i just do water changes daily?

Thanks
Dean.
:good:

EDIT: Nevermind the advice, i ended up doing what i thought to be best and changed water for 2 days until i got my new pump. :)

Hey guys it's been a fun ride, but i've decided to close this tank down. My main reason for doing so is after my pump died and was waiting for a new one to be delivered i noticed a change in my Betta's behavior, he became more sociable and wasn't hiding as much, i guess it's safe to say he didn't like the bubbles at all. And i personally dislike the filter, it's rubbish (sorry biOrb owners). They scratch way too easily it's ridiculous, and I no longer like the aesthetics of the tank either, they are very hard to aquascape (i know i'm fickle!). Anyways i am starting an ADA 60F so look out for my new thread.

Hey guys it's been a while!!

I'm looking for a little help, and advice where possible. Ok as some of you may remember I purchased my Beta (HM Dragon Devil) around 2 years ago, he's been doing great up until this past Tuesday morning! When I went to feed him he was a little bit off character, and didn't take his food as he normally does, however when I returned home that evening the food was gone so I assume he ate. Wednesday he didn't eat at all, and I noticed a slight swelling around his left gill area, and a single small white spot, I immediately changed 75% of the water in the aquarium, and started to research to try and diagnose what the problem could be.

From what I can gather he's either contracted an infection, he got white spot (not your typical white spot dusting though), and as far as I can tell it's just the one single spot on his face/gill area so I am not completely convinced yet. I'm not sure what else could be wrong, could it be Swim Bladder Disorder, or maybe some form of NitrAte poisoning, but again I'm not convinced 20 to 40ppm over the past 2 years has done damage? Shug!!

Anyway I decided the best plan of action would be to find something for any possible fungal bacteria infection, and maybe some antibiotic meds just to be safe. So without further ado I ran to my local pet shop. The pet shop did not have nay antibiotics what so ever, but I managed to pick up some Myxazin. I am on day 5 of the 5 day course of recommded treatment, his swelling seems to have gone down, although not 100%, but I'm sure the white spot has gotten large ;-(

Today he is still very lethargic and off his food, he did however take a little piece of pea yesterday. Should I try treating him for white spot? And where could I obtain a broad spectrum antibiotic? Ideally I would like to try and find out what has caused this infection, was it the food (bloodworm) I gave on occasion, water quality, or just simply one of those things that happen. Time is of the essence so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Dean.

Update: I noticed this evening white bits falling off my beta as he swims around, and something what looked the size of  a scale.

Current tank and params:

He currently lives in a filtered 2.5g tank, however not the best of filters, it's a small air driven bubbler with biological and mechanical filtration. I change his water once a week, and follow the same cleaning routine etc. I condition the TAP water with Seachem Prime water conditioner, the only real change is i recently started to offer him blood worm on occasion as a treat.

Parameters:
Ammo 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20 - 40 ppm (I have always had 20+ppm Nitrate in my tap water).

Well i must say the amount of help I received has been overwhelming. Thank you

My Beta is making a recovery after the course of Myxazin, and Salt treatment. I just wanted to share my experience for anyone that may be interested, or maybe can be of help to anyone trying to diagnose similar problems with their Beta.

All the best :fish:

I'd recommend you create a post in  Tropical Fish Emergencies section.  People aren't guaranteed to view updates to a 2-year-old thread or realise that it is urgent, hence the lack of useful advice.

Hi daizeUK.

I never thought to open a new thread. Thanks for your input. but i don' think a new thread would be necessary now.
