Hey guys it's been a while!!
I'm looking for a little help, and advice where possible. Ok as some of you may remember I purchased my Beta (HM Dragon Devil) around 2 years ago, he's been doing great up until this past Tuesday morning! When I went to feed him he was a little bit off character, and didn't take his food as he normally does, however when I returned home that evening the food was gone so I assume he ate. Wednesday he didn't eat at all, and I noticed a slight swelling around his left gill area, and a single small white spot, I immediately changed 75% of the water in the aquarium, and started to research to try and diagnose what the problem could be.
From what I can gather he's either contracted an infection, he got white spot (not your typical white spot dusting though), and as far as I can tell it's just the one single spot on his face/gill area so I am not completely convinced yet. I'm not sure what else could be wrong, could it be Swim Bladder Disorder, or maybe some form of NitrAte poisoning, but again I'm not convinced 20 to 40ppm over the past 2 years has done damage? Shug!!
Anyway I decided the best plan of action would be to find something for any possible fungal bacteria infection, and maybe some antibiotic meds just to be safe. So without further ado I ran to my local pet shop. The pet shop did not have nay antibiotics what so ever, but I managed to pick up some Myxazin. I am on day 5 of the 5 day course of recommded treatment, his swelling seems to have gone down, although not 100%, but I'm sure the white spot has gotten large ;-(
Today he is still very lethargic and off his food, he did however take a little piece of pea yesterday. Should I try treating him for white spot? And where could I obtain a broad spectrum antibiotic? Ideally I would like to try and find out what has caused this infection, was it the food (bloodworm) I gave on occasion, water quality, or just simply one of those things that happen. Time is of the essence so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Dean.
