Dunno if it helps but males and females differ slightly in looks and also mood seriously effects colours, this is a male playing camo on the wood, their normal colour for male is charcoal black/grey depending on mood. They are also a temperate species preferring cooler water.

Close enough! Its Rhinogobius wui but depending on the mood, they can look identical

 and of all the freshwater gobies common in the trade, this/duospilus are more common ones!! They make fantastic pets! Al they want is a nice cool tank, some pebbles and some bloodworm, anything 30-40L +

Ah! When you said the mood affects their colour I was like "Hmm, which goby does that then?" and then it dawned on me XD Rhinogobius do lol.
