I just placed a bid on some beautiful Ps. Saulosi, and it made me realize that this guy here isn't what the fish store said he was. He is a great peaceful guy and I would just like to know what species he is. Right now he is 4-5 inches long. Does anyone know?

Some kind of Metriaclima species i think, not 100% sure though.

yes he is mine and he is friendly little guy. He was sold to me when I first bought my malawis as a saulosi. But after bidding on the ones on aquabid, I am sure that he is NOT a saulosi.

I think you may be right. Found this guy on Aquabid and they look very similar.

It's a psuedotropheous zebra specie of some sort, there's alot of them, so many different types due to cross breeding, they can't name them all, so they just give call it a Specie of the Psuedotropheous family in the book.I've had Cobalt blues breed with Red Zebras before.
Can be highly Aggressive and very territorial, will kill(if a male)others in the tank, make sure you have lot's of holey rock for hiding spots.
Keep your temp around 78 degress has higher temps will bring about Aggressiveness.

Cheers..

Thank you. This guy is suprisingly sweet. Very mild mannered fish, and is probably the mouse of this communiyt :)

Mmmmm, you guys have got me worried now, I have similar looking Saulosi males (2), they haven't fully coloured up yet as I thought they are still Juvi's, they are about 2.5" long.

Do you think these are Saulosi males?

I really wish I knew what mine is lol. I know he is too big to be a saulosi. But he is a sweet fish though. Very calm.

Thanks Dieses, picture of each male.

I'm almost 100% sure they are Saulosi because I trust the guy I bought them from but they look similar to your pictures.

The coloring on mine is different, not to mention mine is a rather large chunky fish. My guy is about 6 inches, when saulosi's are dwarf mbuna. I may never know what my guy is. But, I like him :)

Yeah hes a saulosi mate definitely :good:

Thanks MM, that's that sorted :good:

I was going to say Saulosi only grow to 3 or 4 inches. As long as you like him that's all that matters :good:
