Hello I dont know if this is the right place to post or not but I need help identifing a school of fish I just picked up. My LFS said they were Lemon Tetras but they dont look anything like that to me, infact they kind of remind me of Bala Sharks bt I know they are not. They have black and red on the tip of there top fins. Here is some pics:

Once again sory if this is the rong place to post.

thnx

All of the lemon tetras I ever saw had red rimmed eyes. I suppose there might be variations, though. I would not have said those are lemon tetras!

Def not Lemon Tetras they look way too big - they remind me of apollo sharks? But my money is on some kind of barb.

I'm no tetra expert, far from it, but they don't look like lemon tetra's to me. The body shape is wrong. More over they don't have an adipose fin, which lemon tetra's do.

Looks more like some sort of barb to me, but like I said, no expert.

EDIT: Took too long serching net, wills beat me to it. They aren't appolo sharks though.

I guess it depends what scale those photos are!

(I presumed they were zoomed shots of young Lemons that have yet to have a body deepening phase)

The shape almost reminds me of Scissortail Rasboras, but the colouring isn't quite right.

Hemigrammus Sp. (signal tetra)

Defo not any type of tetra, has to be in the Cyprinid family

Yes I think they are Tinfoil Barbs they have the same markings. Wow I was planing on getting a biger tank down the road anyways these guys will get up to 14 inches but shuld be fine in my 65 gallon tank or right now.

Thanks for all the replies I looked up every lead posted and so far I think the tinfoil barbs is the best match :)

Tinfoil barbs reach 14 inches? Yep - you're gonna need a bigger tank, or perhaps a small lake! The person at your LFS should get a little better educated.

While I agree that it is a sort of Barb, it is def not Normal Tinfoil Barbs
EDIT- These are Juvenile Golden Tinfoil Barbs

Yep unfortunately they are Tinfoils and the larger of the two species at that (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii)

On second thoughts these could be Yellow-Tail Tinfoils

You guys/gals are cracking me up!!! It's this type...no def this type...well...
