Hi there,

I've seen this fish in the fluval edge tank on the checkout at maidenhead aquatics in ramsgate (in case anyone knows it!) and today in maidenhead aquatics in Addlestone (I get around!!)

Can anyone tell me what it is - I suspect its a cockatoo dwarf cichlid but I dont know? I think they're awesome and would love to get a pair when I move back home!

Incidentally how do you pronounce cichlid!?

Something I was about to make a thread about funnily enough!

I always pronounce it as in chick-lid but I imagine the proper term is (or sounds like) sick-lid

sick-lid is how most say it

I agree with Truck. Looks to be part of the Apistogramma species. Great fish to take care of.

hard to tell really as most apisto look the same untill they reach adult size
i had to ask how to say it too lol
looks very similar to my agassiz but saying that my agassiz look like my beanschi

I think I might make a hit at it and say Female Cockatoo Apistogramma.
i would say its a female but not convinced its a cockatoo i think it could be a baenschi the more i look at it

Just did a google search on them. And BOY do the males have dorsal fins!! But, I don't think that it is one of them... But it is deffinately part of the apistogramma family. And for the most part, they have VERY similar care requirements.

yeah i just bought 5 you should see the males when they flair its awsome to be honest if its a female it could be any apisto as most of the females look the same

I wouldn't really be concerned about what species of apisto you got there. Most of them require the same water parameters, or in the same range.
